For Sale: 2001 Suzuki SV650S, Mileage: 24,584 Acquired October 2018 with the intention of turning it into a track bike (but then I bought a fully track prepared 2005 injection ‘pointy’ model that was complete with a set of wets). I then set about fettling it to go back on the road, and carried out the following work: New taper roller head bearings and cups fitted and greased. Forks serviced, new 20wt oil and Hyperpro progressive springs and aftermarket pre-load adjusters. Brakes F&R refurbished, new seals, new pins, pistons cleaned and polished, stainless bleed nipples and banjo bolts, EBC HH pads, HEL braided brake lines, fresh brake fluid and properly bled. Rear suspension linkages cleaned, checked and re-greased. New EBC clutch friction plates, EBC springs and clutch cable. New Hi-Flo 138 oil filter and Shell Advance fully synthetic 10w40 engine oil. New K&N air filter. Coolant drained, radiator cleaned and painted, engine flushed and filled with fresh coolant. New spark plugs. New petrol tap diaphragm kit. Delkevic oval stainless end can with removable baffle. New aftermarket black anodised aluminium brake and clutch levers. SV650 logo clear grips. Machined aluminium tank lifters fitted for better air flow into the air box. Blown bulbs in the instrument cluster replaced. New battery, regulator/rectifier and replacement CDI unit. Tail tidy with aftermarket indicators and new number plate. Rear hugger and aftermarket undertray. Chain and sprockets are in great condition and have plenty of life in them, as do the Dunlop tyres. Lots of bolts replaced with stainless steel ones. Bike is in excellent mechanical condition and was MOT’d in March 2020 with no advisories. However, as it’s an 18 year old bike it’s no ‘show pony’ and does bear signs of use, so being totally honest here are the bad points: The lower fairings, although securely fastened to the bike and solid and rattle free, have seen better days and could do with fettling with some ‘fibreglassing’ to reinforce weak points/cracks and a paint. The seat panels also have marks/scratches and the stickers/decals on the upper fairings need replacing. The engine paint has flaked off in several places and there is a what I presume to be a fuel stain on the main frame on the nearside. An oil leak developed from the water pump which I discovered after I’d had it MOT’d, so I’ve fitted a replacement water pump, which necessitated dropping the oil and coolant to do so. While I was at it I put a new genuine Suzuki clutch cover ‘O’ ring on and a new engine case paper gasket, plus new Hi-Flo 138 oil filter, fresh coolant and fresh Shell Advance fully synthetic 10w40 engine oil. Its been test ridden after this work and I’m glad to say the oil leak has been addressed. Bike was originally shown as being black in colour on the V5 but when I got it, it had a silver tank and the other panels were very badly wrapped in a fake carbon type plastic. My friend, who was building another SV650 track bike kindly swapped the red tank and body panels that are on it now for my silver tank as he was buying full race fairings for his and was doing his own paint job. I informed the DVLA of the colour change and the V5 now shows it as being a red coloured bike. I have a folder full of receipts for parts used, MOT history backs up the mileage (I can’t guarantee the mileage as I don’t have any of the bike’s history) and lots of photos of the bike from when I first got it, showing the jobs I have done, to as it is now, including the water pump replacement. Bike is a joy to ride with great handling (those that haven’t ridden one, that’s why so many SV’s are used as track bikes/club racers!) with a lovely sound from the end can and that V-twin grunt to drag you out of corners and overtake slower traffic safely.
